Zurich : Picnic in the Alps

This morning we got up really early, about 10 or 11, and drove down south next to west Lake Zurich. The lake is beautiful and very calm today. We stopped in a small town just south of Zurich called Killchbern where the Lindt and Sprüngli chocolate factory is. We bought a bit of chocolate and then headed south again. We stopped at a convenience store and bought some cheese, toast, coldcuts, bread, drinks and strawberries for a picnic. Then we drove around a bit and eventually found our way to this beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere.

We sat on a stone wall about two feet high and took in the fresh air and magnificent views. There was a slight breeze and there were lots of little flowers. We're pretty sure they were Edelweise. Anyway, they're beautiful little white flowers with a touch of purple beneath and yellow inside. The cheese here is a little too ripe for me. None of it was particularly to my taste. But the rest was delicious, especially the strawberries. We lingered at this spot for quite some time, not wanting to leave. The wind died down and the sun was getting low, so we reluctantly strolled back to the car. We started to continue on the road, but only 100 meters ahead, it terminated. So, we turned around and headed back out.

After eating, we drove a little more and found our way to Lichtenstein. It's one of the tiniest little countries. We figure it's about the same size as Lake Zurich. Anyway, it's a charming little country. We saw all of it in about an hour. :)

Then we came back to the hotel. Great little drive. Great little picnic. Very relaxing. The pictures don't do the place justice.
